ONGC seeks US exemption to gain operational control of its oil fields in Venezuela. The company has struggled to repatriate $500 million of dividends due to financial issues and US sanctions. Venezuela has agreed in principle to transfer control, pending US approval. ONGC also awaits a decision on its stake and payment terms in Russia’s Sakhalin-1 field.
