Coal India Ltd (CIL) has formed a joint venture with GAIL (India) Ltd to establish a coal-to-synthetic natural gas project in West Bengal. CIL and GAIL will have 51% and 49% shareholdings respectively. This initiative, endorsed by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, aligns with India's goal of 100 MT coal gasification by 2030.
