The Supreme Court of India has overturned a Delhi High Court decision that dismissed Indian Oil Corp's (IOC) petition for the appointment of an arbitral tribunal to settle a Rs 8,772 crore ($1.2 billion) claim against ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel. The dispute initially involved bankrupt Essar Steel, which ArcelorMittal acquired in December 2019. The Delhi HC had termed the disputes as "non-arbitrable," and the SC noted both parties' willingness to resolve the matter through arbitration.
