The Congress is open to forming a "respectable alliance" for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls. Newly-appointed J&K chief Tariq Hameed Karra emphasised the importance of restoring statehood and criticized the Centre for reducing the state to a Union Territory. Karra mentioned the need for discussions with like-minded parties against the BJP's "hegemonic attitude."
