In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP stalwart Lallu Singh, who contested from Faizabad—a parliamentary constituency that includes Ayodhya—was defeated by Samajwadi Party's Awadesh Prasad with a margin exceeding 54,000 votes. Prasad, a nine-time MLA and prominent figure within the SP, secured victory after a closely fought contest. His win, as a Dalit candidate, underscores the substantial backing he received from more than 250,000 Passis in the region.
