Champai Soren, a seasoned politician and seven-time MLA, has been chosen as the new leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) following Chief Minister Hemant Soren's resignation. Not affiliated with the Hemant Soren family, Champai, 68, hails from the Seraikella constituency in Jharkhand and has a background rooted in farming. Known as the "Kolhan Tiger" for his warrior-like skills during the statehood movement, he is a trade union leader and currently serves as the Minister of Transport in the Jharkhand government.
