(UPDATE) FOR the second straight year, La Salle's Kevin Quiambao and Ateneo's Kacey de la Rosa are to be crowned as the Most Valuable Players (MVPs) in the men's and women's divisions, respectively, of the UAAP basketball tournament.
The UAAP released the statistical points (SP) leaders on Thursday with Quiambao and de la Rosa leading their respective divisions.
Quiambao scored 81.35 SPs built on averages of 16.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, while de la Rosa garnered 96.28 SPs on her 22.07 points, 16.0 rebounds, and 2.28 blocks per game average in the eliminations.
Completing the Mythical Team in the men's division are La Salle's Mike Phillips (74.92), University of the Philippines' JD Cagulangan (69.16), Far Eastern University's Mo Konateh (68.64) and Nic Cabañero (61.0).
University of the East's Precious Momowei was actually fifth in the race with 67.53 SPs but he is ineligible to make the men's best five since only one foreign student-athlete may be recognized, which is Konateh.
On top of that, Momowei also got ejected and served a one-game suspension following his two unsportsmanlike fouls against University of Santo Tomas on Nov. 9, automatically disqualifying him for winning any individual awards.
Meanwhile, FEU's Veejay Pre is set to be crowned as the Rookie of the Year after topping the freshmen's statistical race with 50.85 points.
In the women's side, UST's Kent Pastrana (79.85), UP's Louna Ozar (67.57), Ateneo's Sarah Makanjuola (65.78), and National University's Angel Surada (62.0) were also named to the Mythical Team.
Ateneo's Junize Calago (67.0) finished third in the race but was also disqualified from winning an individual award due to the same reason as Momowei, paving the way for Surada to make the Mythical Team.
NU's Cielo Pagdulagan is set to win the Rookie of the Year award with her 56.57 SPs.
