(UPDATE) THE San Beda University Red Lions mauled the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals to the tune of 30 points, 89-59, at the FilOil EcoOil Center on Wednesday to move on the cusp of a Final Four berth in the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament.
Avenging its first-round loss to EAC, San Beda got off to a good start and then broke the game wide open in the third frame to go 10-5, third place in the standings and move one win closer to securing a semifinal berth.
The Red Lions shut down the Generals to only six points in the third canto while scoring 18 of their own to pull away and claim their second consecutive win.
San Beda never let up in the final frame and built its biggest lead of 33 points, 89-56, following a Zane Jalbuena trey in the final 11 seconds.
"This is a very important win. The confidence this can bring... if we enter the playoffs. This is important to us, especially for Emman Tagle and Bismarck [Lina], who just came back from a suspension," said San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta.
"It's huge for us to have them back and get them in the flow of things."
Tagle pumped 20 points built on five triples to lead the Red Lions, while Lina also came through with 18 points and four rebounds.
Yukien Andrada banged 14 points and five rebounds as AJ Royo and Jomel Puno chipped in nine points apiece, adding four and eight rebounds to their names, respectively.
The San Beda bench mob did most damage to EAC as the Red Lions' second stringers scored 60 points against the latter's 37.
San also dominated the rebounding department, 47-34, as well as the assists category, 23-11.
King Gurtiza and Harvey Pagsanjan dropped 10 points each for the Generals, who dropped to 7-8 and created a three-way tie at No. 4 with Lyceum and Letran.
