MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines ended the KASAD 6th Asian Taekwondo Open Championships 2024 in Indonesia with 5 medals.
Despite not winning any gold, the national taekwondo team still managed two silver and three bronze medals.
During the tournament's opening day, Nicole Anne McCann and Abigail Faye Valdez grabbed the county's first two medals at the event.
On Thursday, the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) announced that the country has three more medalists.
In the men's 54-kilogram event, Reymundo Calamba III settled for a silver medal finish after losing to Shahzaib Khan of Pakistan in the finals. He previously defeated Wendy Setiawan of Indonesia in the semifinals.
Rryshel Jasmine Ramirez settled for a bronze medal in the women's 46 kg event, after bowing to eventual silver medalist Rayinda Syah Alexandra of Indonesia. Kim Su-lim of South Korea would win the gold, after beating the hometown bet in their final.
At the 53 kg event, Sharifa Vianca dela Cruz also settled for a bronze medal, after her defeat to eventual gold medalist Aidana Sundetbay of Kazakhstan.
"A huge congratulations once more to our Philippine National Team who represented the country, and competed gallantly at the KASAD 6th Asian Taekwondo Open Championships 2024!" the PTA wrote on Thursday.
