SEN. Bong Go underscored his continued support for the people of Sulu following the recent Supreme Court ruling that declared the province not part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The high court upheld the constitutionality of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, which established BARMM but excluded Sulu. The court cited most of its voters rejecting inclusion in the autonomous region during the 2019 plebiscite.
The senator expressed his respect for the Supreme Court's decision while reiterating his commitment to Sulu's welfare and development.
Go, chairman of the Senate Health Committee and vice chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, has actively supported various infrastructure and community projects across the province.
Despite Sulu's exclusion from BARMM, his malasakit efforts to bring services and development to the province will continue unabated.
On Jan. 6, 2021, Go accompanied then-president Rodrigo Duterte in officially launching the country's 97th Malasakit Center in Sulu Provincial Hospital in Jolo.
Nine months later, Go welcomed the opening of the second Malasakit Center in Sulu Sanitarium and Jolo. It was the 138th branch of the Malasakit Center, a brainchild of Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography.
Initiated by Go in 2019, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where partner agencies, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Department of Health, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp., are put in one office to assist poor Filipinos in covering their medical expenses.
To date, there are 166 Malasakit Centers that have assisted more or less 12 million Filipinos nationwide.
Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program.
