THE Philippine delegation has so far won four gold medals and two silvers in the ongoing 2024 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Junior Championships in Leon, Spain. Angeline Colonia bagged two gold medals and one silver medal at the women's 45-kilogram division on Thursday. Colonia lifted 74 kgs in the snatch to give the Philippines its first gold medal in the tournament. She settled for the silver medal in clean and jerk after clearing 88 kgs. Ioana Miron of Romania's best lift in clean and jerk was also 88 kilograms but was given the gold as she made it in fewer attempts. The young lifter from Zamboanga City, however, captured the overall gold as she tallied 162 kilograms for the two lifting events. The overall silver went to Khemika Kamnoedsri of Thailand (160 kgs) and the bronze was won by Miron (154 kgs). Colonia's father Gregorio and elder brother Nestor competed in the 1988 Seoul and 2016 Rio Olympics, respectively.
