Jerusalem to defend WBC title in Mandaluyong

WORLD Boxing Council 105-pound champion Melvin Jerusalem will defend his crown against unbeaten Mexican challenger Luis Castillo on Sunday, September 22, at the Mandaluyong City College in Mandaluyong City. Also known as "El Gringo," the pride of Bukidnon is eager to put on a show in front of his countrymen and scratch the flawless 21-0-1 record (13 knockouts) of his opponent. "I am doing this for our country, I really want to bring honor to the Philippines. I will do everything I can to fight for our flag," said Jerusalem, who holds a 22-3 win-loss card with 12 KOs. Brawling in the Philippines for the first time, the Mexican said that he is unfazed with Jerusalem's confidence and the support the Filipino champ will get from the partisan crowd. "That's fine with me. At the end of the day, there are only two people inside the ring. I'm pretty sure that I can fight. I will fight for my life, I will win and have this," said Castillo, a native of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. The 5-foot-6 Castillo, meanwhile, is taller by four inches than Jerusalem. He also has a reach of 66 inches compared to the champ's 63-inch reach.
