Rain or Shine ends 11-game losing streak to San Miguel

Rain or Shine finally ended its long winless spell against San Miguel Beer after shooting down the Beermen, 122-112, in their marquee clash on Thursday in the PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. Andrei Caracut scored 12 of his team high 20 points in a critical Rain or Shine run in the third period, while import Aaron Fuller spearheaded the team's defense that slowed down eight-time league Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, enabling the Elasto Painters to achieve their breakthrough win versus the powerhouse Beermen. The Elasto Painters improved to 7-2 overall to create an important separation from the Beermen, who dropped to 5-3, and the Barangay Ginebra Kings (6-3). Before this win, Rain or Shine has lost 11 straight times to San Miguel. The Beermen are also coming off a 49-point demolition of the Gin Kings a few days back. The Elasto Painters' speed and scrappy plays enabled them outrebound the Beermen, 53-43, even as their solid team play gave them a 33-23 assists advantage. Fuller scored 17 points and 11 rebounds, Beau Belga and Adrian Nocum chipped in 16 each, Gian Mamuyac had 13, while Gabe Norwood contributed 10 and 11 boards in a balanced scoring attack for Rain or Shine. CJ Perez led San Miguel with 27 points, Terrence Romeo and import Jordan Adams added 24 apiece. Adams, though, failed to finish the game as he appeared to have hurt his right leg in the last period. Fajardo finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
