MANILA, Philippines — Alec Stockton dropped 12 of his 27 points in a fiery fourth quarter offensive as Converge rapped undermanned Meralco, 105-97 for its third straight win in the PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The former Far Eastern University playmaker couldn't be stopped, particularly inside the final two minutes that saw him knock down the go-ahead three off Chris Banchero's defense, to give the FiberXers a 99-98 lead. And after Meralco rookie CJ Cansino missed on his driving layup, Stockton again scored on a turnaround shot from just within the keyhole area to give his team a three-point lead. And while Stockton later, was whistled for a technical foul for second motion against Banchero, the wily Converge playmaker made his own pair of foul shots that all but wrapped up the FiberXers' fifth win in nine starts. The Bolts still stayed at second with their 6-3 record. More importantly, the win boosted Converge's quarterfinal hopes with new import Jalen Jones providing a solid PBA debut of 32 points and 10 rebounds as he took over the spot of injured Scotty Hopson. Stockton also added 11 rebounds and five assists. Allen Durham led Meralco with 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while Cansino added 21. Chris Newsome finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds but shot just 3-of-11 from the floor.
