Galang finds range in the clutch, emerges as UE hero

MANILA, Philippines — Misfiring through 38 minutes and 44 seconds of the contest, Ethan Galang found his range to emerge as the hero in UE's 56-51 win over FEU in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, September 18. Galang scored eight of his 10 points in the last 1:16 as the Red Warriors took their first win in three games for sixth place, and sent the Tamaraws to eighth and bottom with a 0-3 slate. "I know I was a flop pretty much the whole game but in that last minute [I just said to myself to] keep shooting, keep my head up, whatever happened in the past can stay in the past. Just keep shooting," said Galang. The 6-foot-4 Galang regained his shooting touch in the last 1:16 when he drilled a triple that tied the count at 51. He banged another one with 25 seconds to go before securing the win for his team by sinking two free throws in the last 6.2 seconds. Same as with the other shooters, all Galang needed was to see that ball go in. "As soon I see the ball go in, I just feel like 'okay, now I'm in my groove'. My confidence is just high at that point. I feel like I can shoot anything I want but I'm gonna do that cause coach will get mad," said Galang. "My first make really gonna get me going. I think as a shooter, I only speak for myself but I think as soon as you get the ball go in, it really gonna push your confidence really high." Galang said it was 'great' and 'spectacular' to have coach Jack Santiago's trust despite struggling in the field. He's more than willing to share the ball, though. "I just wanna share the love sometimes. If I can get an open shot, cool but if I see a better shot for my teammates, I'm going to give it to them."
