Sen. Bong Go has urged PhilHealth officials to deliver on their promise to increase case rates for common diseases. The chairman of the Senate Committee on Health said during the panel hearing that Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) President Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. committed to increasing the case rates for the top ten most common diseases in terms of mortality and morbidity. "We just don't need your words. We need actions and tangible solutions to these problems. It's time to deliver results," the senator said. He called on PhilHealth not to overpromise and under-deliver. "Have mercy on the people. Don't let them hope for nothing." Ledesma said the top common diseases comprise 80 percent of the case rates in the country. Heart attack was ranked the number one killer disease, followed by cancer, stroke, diabetes, pneumonia, and hypertension. Ledesma committed to increasing case rates by 50 percent almost across the board before the end of November this year. Go has been firm on increasing case rates, which have been insufficient to cover medical costs.
