P1.6B allotted for printing of 73M ballots for 2025 midterm polls

MANILA, Philippines — A total of P1.6-billion from the existing bundled contract of Miru Systems as the official election provider for the May 2025 National and Local Elections has been allocated for the printing of 73 million ballots which will begin in the second week of December. This development came following the signing of a memorandum of agreement between Miru, the National Printing Office (NPO and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday for the provision of printing services for the official ballots to be used in the upcoming polls. According to Ken Cho, Miru vice president for Overseas Sales, his company will be lending to the NPO brand new machines, which uses the latest technology from industry leader, HP. Cho said that no matter how good the devices of Miru were "we won't be able to meet our goal of delivering this important part of the project without the ballots." Meanwhile, Renato Acosta, NPO Chief, said that the signing of the tripartite agreement was part of their collective determination to provide safe, secure, and readily available ballots for the elections. Comelec Chairman George Garcia cited the importance of meeting the tight deadlines set for filing of candidacies and submission of election peripherals. "We have to come together because there is little left," Chairman Garcia said.
