Yulo to young self: 'We did it'

(UPDATE) IF Carlos Yulo could speak to his younger self, to that dreamer who was learning the ropes of gymnastics, he'd say that they did it, that they've accomplished their dream.

The dream was realized at the Paris Olympics four weeks ago when Yulo claimed a gold medal in floor exercise and vault, becoming the first Filipino Olympian to win two mints at the grandest sporting stage.

"We did it [young self]," said Yulo in a press conference Saturday at the Gateway 2 Cinema 11, where he also received a P5 million check from Digiplus.

Digiplus also re-signed Yulo as its ambassador on the same day.

"I wanna thank you because your dream wasn't impossible. It is possible with God and the right people surrounding you. I'm really amazed with what you've done, for all the challenges you went to overcome."

Yulo said he's glad never gave up, pushing through despite the struggles in the athletic field and in his personal life.

The 24-year-old could not be grateful enough.

"I'm grateful to God because he gave me the opportunity to challenge myself," said Yulo.

"It's all worth it. I didn't give up. I'm happy practicing my sport. I really enjoyed my time in Paris and my victory. I'm really happy because I've overcome it all. I'm really grateful."
