SEN. Bong Go has called on the government to improve health care access at the community level, especially the underserved and far-flung areas.
The senator made the call on Friday during his visit in Baganga, Davao Oriental where he also inspected a Super Health Center (SHC).
Go also led a relief operation that benefited 1,750 residents, composed of laborers, carpenters and fishermen.
He lauded the local government of Baganga for prioritizing health services and collaborating with the national government to ensure that residents have access to quality health care close to their homes.
Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, cited the role of health infrastructure in national development.
He said that investments in such projects "are essential to ensuring that Filipinos, regardless of their economic status or location, can receive timely medical attention."
"The Super Health Center is an important investment in the health of the community," Go said in Filipino.
"This is not just a building, this is a bridge of hope that will bring primary medical services to our countrymen," he added.
Go said that SHCs serve as medium-sized polyclinics designed to decongest hospitals by offering primary health care services in one location.
These centers are equipped with facilities for outpatient care, birthing, diagnostics, laboratory tests, X-ray, and minor surgical procedures.
They also include specialized services such as eye, ear, nose and throat care; physical therapy; oncology; and telemedicine, affording patients to receive diagnoses and treatments right where they are.
