MANILA, Philippines — THE low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Samar may turn into a tropical depression within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.
Weather specialist Grace Castaneda said the LPA was estimated at 175 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 205 kms east of Borongan City.
She said Masbate, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar and Biliran will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA.
The same weather disturbance will affect Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Quezon, and the rest of Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas and Bicol Region where cloudy skies with scattered rains would be likely.
In 24 hours, the southwest monsoon or habagat will bring scattered rain showers in MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), the rest of Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao.
Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms will affect Metro Manila and the rest of the country where isolated downpours or thunderstorms would prevail, Pagasa said.
