Duterte remains top choice for president but support drops — survey

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte is still the top choice for President but her support slid from 42 percent in the first quarter of 2024 to 25.4 percent for the second quarter, according to a non-commissioned opinion poll by Oculum Research.

Duterte's satisfaction rating as vice president also slid significantly with an 11 point drop from 75 percent for Q1 to 64 percent for Q2.

The survey was conducted after her resignation as Education secretary on June 18, 2024.

At the same time, more respondents were unsatisfied or very unsatisfied with Duterte's performance, at 13 percent, up from 5 percent in Q1.

Sen. Raffy Tulfo was the choice of 18.5 percent of respondents for president, while 10.6 percent chose former vice president Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo.

They were followed by Sen. Imee Marcos (5.7 percent), former Manila mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso (4.8 percent), former senator Manny Pacquiao (3.1 percent), Sen. Risa Hontiveros (2.9 percent), Sen. Robin Padilla (2.6 percent), and Speaker Martin Romualdez (0.8 percent).

On the other hand, satisfaction on President Ferdinand Marco's performance remained steady at 50 percent for Q2.

Senate President Francis Escudero got 48 percent, mirroring the satisfaction rating obtained by his predecessor, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, in the first quarter of 2024.

Speaker Romualdez obtained a 34 percent satisfaction rating while Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo got 25 percent.

The non-commissioned 2024 second-quarter national survey was conducted from June 25 to 30, 2024 by Oculum Research and Analytics in partnership with APCoRE, a professional organization of academics and researchers, Areopagus Communications Inc., and PressOne.PH.

A total of 1,200 respondents, aged 18 years old and above, were interviewed face-to-face. It had a margin of error of ± 3 percentage points and a confidence level of 95 percent.
