BACOOR CITY, Cavite — Defending champion Bacoor Lady Strikers-Metro Land Builders opened the new season of Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association (MPVA) with a straight sets victory over ICC Negros Lady Blue Hawks on Sunday, August 11, here at the Home of the Strikers gymnasium.
Reigning Most Valuable Player Shaila Omipon recorded a game high 17 points, 16 excellent receptions, 14 good serves and had 15 excellent attacks in 42 attempts and a block to lead the Lady Strikers to a 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 win over the Lady Blue Hawks, the maiden season finalist.

Middle blocker Winnie Bedan̈a also scored 11 points, Charisse Enrico added 11 points and rookie Jemma Menor chipped in 4 points and 10 good serves for the Sandy Prieto-coached team.
The Lady Blue Hawks, on the other hand, were led by Gelah Lopez with 11 points even as Ivy Aquino and Andrea Caparal added 7 points each.

The core of the Bacoor squad are players from the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.
Bacoor will next face Rizal Xentro Mall on Tuesday, August 13, at the same venue.
