MANILA, Philippines -- Despite the rain pausing their bout, Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala stormed to another 2-set victory at the 2024 Kewer Jewelers Tennis Challenge in Landisville, Pennsylvania, United States on Friday (Saturday in Manila).
At the women's singles Round of 16, she defeated American Mary Stoiana in two sets, 7-5, 6-2, punching her ticket to the quarterfinals.
Eala already won her first set and was originally trailing 1-2, when the rain paused the game in the 2nd set.
On her Instagram stories, she also showed that it was a "late night win" because of the weather delay.
The rainy conditions, however, cancelled the doubles match of Eala and supposed Mexican partner Renata Zarazúa against the American pair of Mccartney Kressler and Alana Smith.
She will face either Talia Gibson or Olivia Gadecki, both Australians in the quarterfinals.
