IBA, Zambales — Zambales 2nd District Rep. Doris Maniquiz led the opening of the new Tambak Bridge in Sitio Tambac, Barangay Palanginan in the capital town of Zambales on Sunday.

The P105-million bridge replaces the old narrow bridge that has become hazardous to motorists.

Maniquiz, who secured additional funding for the project, thanked Tingog Partylist and House Speaker Martin Romualdez who helped finance the construction of the bridge.

Maniquiz said Tambak Bridge, which connects to Barangay Mambog and San Isidro in the town of Botolan, and the ongoing construction of the bypass road will help decongest the flow of traffic along the National Highway.

"As a mother, we dream of uplifting the lives of our constituents in every town, and in every barangay. I am asking all of you whose houses are within the area where these infrastructures will be built to not raise your property prices," she said, citing that the government has a maximum price in buying land.

"The construction of the bridge will also highlight the development of Barangay Palanginan and would benefit entrepreneurs."

She added that the bridge is a sign of progress.

Maniquiz said that the construction of the bridge would also highlight the development of Barangay Palanginan as she foresees the influx of businesses as the ease of transportation would benefit entrepreneurs.

Iba Municipal Mayor Irene Maniquiz-Binan said that the land area has so much potential in Sitio Tambac, but has been a boon to businesses since the old bridge can only accommodate small vehicles.

She said that through the initiative of Maniquiz, a bigger bridge was built in its place.

"Businesses here will soon develop since the area is very accessible even to large vehicles," the mayor said.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Zambales 1st District Engr. Hermon Ines said that the initial funding for the construction of the bridge was P50 million but the lawmaker raised P55 million more to complete the project.

Ines said more infrastructure projects are in the pipeline, including bypass and diversion roads, in the province.

Meanwhile, Maniquis also led the inauguration of a 3-room multipurpose building for the students of San Gregorio National High School in San Antonio, Zambales.
