MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education said that 979 schools will remain shut on Monday, July 29, 2024, the start of School Year 2024-2025.
Most of the schools — 452 — are in Central Luzon.
It said that 225 are in Metro Manila; 231 in the Ilocos Region; 67 in Calabarzon region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon); and 4 are in Soccsksargen. These schools were badly affected by the floods triggered by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon.
The department said that its regional offices would keep validating the number of schools that would not push through with Monday's school opening.
The DepEd said that 19,268,747 students enrolled for SY 2024-2025.
