CEBU CITY — Law enforcers arrested a major drug suspect during a high-profile operation in Cebu City on July 24, seizing shabu estimated to be worth over P13.9 million.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Argie de la Cruz, who was apprehended by the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU 7) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA 7) during a buy-bust at Sitio Dubusteha in Barangay Kalunasan.
The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) confirmed de la Cruz's arrest, tagging him as a big-time drug suspect.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of 2.050 kilos of shabu with a standard drug price of P13,900,000.
According to PRO 7, they immediately sent the confiscated illegal substances to the Regional Forensic Unit for analysis and examination.
Meanwhile, de la Cruz remains in police custody as authorities finalize the documentation for filing of charges under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which imposes severe penalties for the possession and sale of illegal drugs.
"This result comes from our sustained efforts to earn the community's trust and confidence, ensuring integrity in our police operations according to police operational procedures," said PRO 7 regional director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin.
PRO 7 emphasized the significant achievement of the RPDEU 7 and PDEA 7's joint operation, as Aberin highlighted that the successful seizure and arrest stemmed from an aggressive, focused, highly analytical and community-supported drug campaign.
