MANILA, Philippines — Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo put himself in the final contention in the floor exercise, vault, and all-around events after two subdivisions in the Paris Olympics men's artistic gymnastics qualification round at the Bercy Arena late Saturday night, July 27 (Manila time).
The third and final subdivision starts at 2 a.m. here in Manila.
Competing in subdivision 2, Yulo is currently second in floor exercise with 14.766 points (6.300 in difficulty and 8.466 in execution) and sixth in vault with 14.683 points.
Yulo, a world champion in floor exercise in 2019 and vault in 2021, needs his scores to stay in top eight of the aforementioned events to qualify for the final rounds.
In the all-around, Yulo's scores amounted to 83.631 points which currently stands in eight place. He needs to finish in top 24 after subdivision 3 to reach the championship round.
Meanwhile, Yulo bombed out of medal contention in pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.
Yulo scored 13.066 points in pommel horse for 28th place; 13.0 in rings for 35th, 14.533 in parallel bars for 17th, and 13.466 in horizontal bar for 21st place as of posting time.
