Actor Gerald Anderson spotted rescuing child in flooded home, earns praises

MANILA, Philippines — Actor Gerald Anderson earned praises from netizens for helping rescue a family who was stranded in their flooded home in Quezon City during the typhoon-enhanced heavy rains that swamped Metro Manila on Wednesday.

In a viral video posted by user @TmaeOsanomae on X (formerly Twitter), the actor was spotted gently talking to a child before bringing her to safety, saying in Filipino, "Come with me, hold on to me. I'll take care of you."

In the comments section, the social media user said the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in Santo Domingo, Quezon City.

Another post in the same thread showed one user sharing a photo of Anderson this time holding on to a makeshift rescue boat.

"We live just in front of where he is staying and this is him helping transport people," user @PascualLlyod wrote.

This was not the first time that Anderson was seen helping out in rescue missions. It can be remembered that in 2009, the then-20-year-old helped rescue his stranded neighbors in Vista Real Classica in Quezon City during Tropical Storm "Ondoy."

Anderson has been an active member of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) unit since 2016. He currently serves as the Auxiliary Lieutenant Commander of the K9 Squadron, where his real-life partner, actress Julia Barretto, has also been a member since 2021.
