MANILA, Philippines: The Quezon City government suspended classes in all levels in public and private schools on Monday, July 22, 2024.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will deliver his State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) on Monday afternoon before a joint session of congress at the House of Representatives. Various groups are expected to hold rallies near the Batasang Pambansa complex.
The suspension of classes aims to minimize the impact of road closures and anticipated heavy traffic on residents and students, the local government said.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has started implementing a gun ban.
All Permits to Carry Firearms Outside Residence are suspended beginning July 20 until midnight on July 22.
Mayor Joy Belmonte told The Manila Times that she issued an order implementing a liquor ban on Monday, starting at 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"This measure is intended to maintain public order and reduce the risk of alcohol-related incidents during the SONA," Belmonte said.
QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said that by implementing the measures, any untoward incidents would be prevented and public order would be assured.
