MANILA, Philippines — Christian Standhardinger admitted that Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone's decision to trade him, along with fellow veteran Stanley Pringle to Terrafirma for Stephen Holt and Isaac Go was "part of the game."
"I acknowledge Coach Tim's decision to trade me and respect it. It's part of the game, and I wish him and the team all the best moving forward," the 6-foot-8 Filipino-German banger wrote in a long post at his Instagram account @c.standhardinger just a few hours after PBA fans were startled with the news he got traded on Saturday.
Nonetheless, Standhardinger expressed his gratitude to the team management, the coaching staff, the players and even the Ginebra supporters for the "incredible support and love" showed to him during his time with the league's most popular ballclub.
"Being part of this team has been a truly unforgettable journey, and I'm grateful for every cheer, every chant, and every moment of encouragement," he wrote.
The 35-year-old PBA star continued: "To the management of San Miguel, especially Boss RSA (Ramon S. Ang) and Boss Alfrancis Chua, I extend my sincerest thanks. Your trust and commitment have been invaluable, and I appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a prestigious organization. Thank you for putting together a team of high character and integrity.
"To my teammates, it has been an honor battling alongside you. We shared some amazing moments, including winning two championships, and I will always cherish those memories. I wish you all continued success and many more titles in the future."
Standhardinger, who emerged as one of San Miguel Beermen in star center June Mar Fajardo's main adversaries for the Most Valuable Player for Season 48, also took the time to thank Ginebra's legion of fans for their all-out support during his three-year stint with the franchise.
"I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible support and love you've shown me throughout my time with Barangay Ginebra. Being part of this team has been a truly unforgettable journey, and I'm grateful for every cheer, every chant, and every moment of encouragement," said the top overall pick during the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft.
"To the fans, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your unwavering support has meant the world to me, and it has been an honor to play for you and represent the Ginebra colors."
Standhardinger, who won two league titles with Ginebra, averaged 19.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists in Season 48.
