British Chamber looks forward to passage of key legislative priorities

THE British Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines reiterates its support toward the key legislative priorities of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration, citing its significance in further boosting the United Kingdom (UK)-Philippines trade relations and overall foreign investments.

The Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council, chaired by President Marcos and other policymakers and representatives, approves to prioritize the passage of 28 bills within the 19th congress or until June 2025.

The British Chamber consistently supports the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act and the Anti-Financial Accounts Scamming Act, which are included in the priority list and have been approved by both Houses, awaiting its passage into law.

The Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act provides stringent measures against smuggling, profiteering, hoarding and cartel to safeguard the local farmers and consumers.

The British Chamber actively promotes this to manage inflation and ensure a stable supply while leveraging a more competitive agricultural sector.

In line with this, the British Chamber also lauds Executive Order 62, mandating the extension of lowered tariff rates for pork and other agricultural commodities.

In its upcoming Philippine-British Meat Trade Briefing on July 30, 2024, in partnership with the UK Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, it aims to reinforce the relations among UK meat exporters and their local counterparts with meat and meat preparations being in the top five goods exported from the UK.
