Cebu hosts 4 major events

CEBU CITY — Metro Cebu is set to become a bustling hub of activities this month as four significant events, notably the annual Palarong Pambansa, are happening simultaneously.

Department of Education – Central Visayas Director Salustiano Jimenez said they anticipate that at least 30,000 participants from across the Philippines will converge on Cebu for four national events.

The Palarong Pambansa, an annual sports spectacle by the Department of Education (DepEd), is expected to attract around 12,000 athletes and sports officials from the country's 17 regions, led by the National Capital Region and Central Visayas which are traditional powerhouses.

The national sports event will see young athletes from various regions competing in a wide array of sports disciplines, fostering camaraderie, and showcasing Filipino talent.

In addition to the sporting event, the National Festival of Talents will take place in the City of Naga in southern Cebu.

The festival will provide a platform for students to exhibit artistic and technical skills.

The City of Carcar, also in south Cebu, will host the annual National Schools Press Conference.

Aspiring young journalists will gather here to enhance journalistic skills and participate in various competitions in campus journalism.

The Learners Convergence in Lapu-Lapu City is another significant event scheduled for this month.

The gathering will focus on bringing together students from different parts of the country to engage in educational and cultural exchanges.

Moreover, the National Learning Camp will also take place in Cebu focusing on both academic and extracurricular activities.

Jimenez emphasized the importance of these events in promoting education, talent and sportsmanship among Filipino youth.

He highlighted that hosting these national events in Cebu provides a unique opportunity for the region to showcase its hospitality and culture while supporting the development of the nation's future leaders.

To ensure the safety of all participants, LtCol. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesman for the Police Regional Office Central Visayas, said last month during a news forum that they will deploy at least 2,000 security forces.

Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed her attendance at these events.

As these events occur simultaneously, Metro Cebu is expected to experience increased activity and tourism, benefiting local businesses and communities.
