Bong Go provides aid to Bislig City residents

SEN. Bong Go visited Bislig City in Surigao del Sur on Tuesday to extend crucial assistance to thousands of residents.

The event held at the Barangay Mangagoy Gym highlighted the senator's committed efforts in meeting the needs of marginalized and underserved Filipinos.

In his speech, Go, known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to the poor, underscored the importance of continued government support for Filipinos, particularly the poorest members of society.

"We love you in Surigao del Sur because we are all Filipinos. ... Whatever you eat, that's what I eat too. Whatever you ride, that's what I ride too. ... I don't put on airs at work because I've been used to working since before. Please don't treat me as someone else. Just approach me, talk to me, and you can hug me," Go said in Filipino.

"Anywhere in the country, as long as my body and time allow, I will help. ... I am here to serve you ... to assist to the best of my ability, promote programs, projects and laws that will benefit the poor, support those who can develop your area, and leave a smile during your moments of grief."

Two thousand beneficiaries received aid from Go and his Malasakit Team, such as grocery packs, snacks, vitamins, masks, shirts, bags, basketballs and volleyballs. Select recipients have received additional bikes, mobile phones, watches and shoes.

Go, vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, also extended his support for several projects in Bislig City to further contribute to its development.

Among these projects are the construction of an evacuation center and multipurpose buildings and the paving of a road along Bocto-Tumanan.
