BTS' Jin to carry torch for South Korea in 2024 Paris Olympics

MANILA, Philippines — Jin of K-Pop boy group BTS is set to be one of the torchbearers for the 2024 Paris Olympics, South-Korean media outlet reports on Tuesday.

Prior to the opening ceremony on July 26, Jin will become one of more than 11,000 individuals who will be carrying the flame across the nation for the next 11 weeks.

The K-Pop superstar is expected to fly over to France soon, with details yet to be disclosed by his management, Big Hit Music.

Jin's agency assured the public that they will provide further updates "as soon as it is ready."

Promoting "self-love" and positivity ever since they started their journey, this initiative of BTS — alongside their global influence — is believed by many as the reasons why the group leader, Jin, is chosen to participate in the torch relay.

After completing his military service on June 12, Jin celebrated by reuniting with his BTS bandmates, who had all been granted leave to commemorate the occasion.

He proceeded with work after his necessary break, attending fan meetings and reality shows all while preparing for his next solo album to be released between October and December this year.

The Olympic torch relay is anticipated to draw about notable participants beside Jin such as the former Ivorian soccer player Didier Drogba and former French American basketball star Tony Parker; also included are other individuals such as French citizens and a Filipina named Marie De Ocampo.

Before the actual games, the ceremonial torch relay highlights the travel of the Olympic torch from Olympia, Greece, through several nations, until it finally arrives at the location of the current year's Olympics, formally starting the games.

The Olympic flame serves as a symbol of the virtues that humanity has always associated with fire and, as such, conveys a message of friendship and peace between people.

Arriving in France last month, the Paris Olympic torch will travel 12,000 kilometers through more than 400 venues in France before it arrives at the Jardins du Trocadero, the opening ceremony venue.

More than 15,000 participants from 206 countries will compete in 329 events across 32 sports during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which will commence from July 26 to August 11.
