Officials from the River Seine police brigade said on Tuesday, July 2, that years of training have prepared them for the upcoming task of providing security for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The River Seine is a central element of the Paris Games as it hosts the Opening Ceremony on July 26, and the open water swimming and triathlon events.Organizers hope the opening ceremony, in which 160 boats carrying athletes from around the world will travel a 6-kilometer (3.7 miles) route along the Seine river towards the Eiffel tower, will deliver a jaw-dropping spectacle. Some 300,000 spectators will watch from the banks of the Seine as a global audience tunes in on TV.French President Emmanuel Macron has already floated the possibility of scrapping the river ceremony and reverting to at least two back-up plans, if the security risks become untenable.Video by REUTERS
