THE Philippine National Police (PNP) reminded policemen to distance themselves from illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) to preserve the integrity of law enforcement.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil called on all police officers to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of integrity, particularly concerning POGOs.
In a statement on Sunday, Marbil warned that severe punishment awaits police personnel who will be found protecting illegal POGOs.
"Integrity and accountability are the cornerstones of our public service. We remain committed to ensuring that our officers uphold these values," the PNP chief said.
"This policy serves as a reminder: engage in illegal activities, and you will be dealt with accordingly," he said.
Recently, the PNP intensified its efforts against illegal POGOs, leading to numerous arrests, seizure of illicit equipment and significant disruption of unlawful activities.
Current coordinated efforts being waged by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) have dismantled multiple illegal POGO operations across the country.
Marbil commended the CIDG and ACG for their exemplary performance and relentless pursuit of justice. "Their strategic planning and effective execution have safeguarded the public and demonstrated the PNP's capability to tackle complex criminal networks," he said.
In support of these efforts, Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos reaffirmed his support for the PNP's initiatives, emphasizing the importance of integrity and accountability in law enforcement.
