30-day toll suspension in Cavitex lauded

SEN. Bong Revilla, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Works, lauded the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) for its decision to suspend toll collection in certain sections of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (Cavitex), a move that aims to alleviate the public's financial burden due to the escalating fuel costs.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced a 30-day toll suspension during the three-fold Cavitex event for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Cavitex-Calax Link and the Cavitex C5 Link Segment 3B, as well as the inauguration of the Cavitex C5 Link Sucat Interchange (Segment 2) held earlier that day.

"I greatly appreciate the initiative of the PRA to suspend toll collection on certain parts of Cavitex. This will undoubtedly provide relief to the public, especially given the rising cost of goods and prices," Revilla said in Filipino on Friday.

"I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to our President Bongbong Marcos for understanding the situation and experiences of our fellow citizens, particularly ordinary people who will benefit from this 30-day toll suspension," the legislator added.

As the operator of Cavitex, PRA will enforce the toll suspension in key areas, including Taguig, Parañaque, Las Piñas and Kawit. While the exact start date was not specified, the Toll Regulatory Board was instructed to expedite the implementation.

Meanwhile, Revilla also praised the continuing infrastructure development throughout the country, especially in Cavite and Southern Luzon.

"We are entering a golden age of infrastructure development! Even here in Cavite, meaningful government projects are already being felt, ensuring significant benefits for our fellow citizens," Revilla said.

"Caviteños are eagerly excited and anticipating the completion of these expressway links, as well as the completion of LRT Line 1 Extension that would provide fast and efficient travel for the transporting public," the lawmaker added.

Revilla appealed for the public's patience and understanding as these projects go under construction.

"Even now, we are already seeking the public's understanding regarding the potential impact of these road constructions. Rest assured that we will remind the DPWH and the contractors to deliver results efficiently and timely. I am excited about these developments, so let's support them together!" Revilla said.
