TIAONG, Quezon — For the first time in this town's history, business entities were recognized by the local government in a lavish event dubbed "Pillars of Prosperity Business Excellence Awards Night 2024" held Friday at the Tiaong Town Plaza.
Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea told The Manila Times his administration wanted to pay back business owners who played important roles in boosting the town's economy through the taxes they pay.
"When I assumed office in 2022, Tiaong only generated P50 million in tax revenue. Through the diligent efforts of the local government's financial managers, our local tax revenue doubled to P108 million in 2023," Mea said.
He said he focused on improving the peace and order situation by providing the local police force the logistical and moral support to do their jobs effectively.
The police's high morale translated to the regained trust of the populace, particularly the business community, added Mea.
The business community's all-out support for the local government's tax campaign moved Mea to recognize them in turn.
Special awards were given, including the Startup Business Excellency Award to Angry Baboy Samgyupsal, the Pinnacle of Success Award to Victoriano's Garden Cafe and the Agri-Business Excellence Award to Jose Lalunio.
The event highlighted the Top 5 Taxpayers Award, ranked from the top 1: Savemore-City Mall-Sandford Marketing Inc., Easy Bio Philippines Inc., Underground Technologies Inc., C-Joy Poultry Meats Inc., and Villa Escudero Plantation and Resort Inc.
The local government also paid tribute to the balikbayan who came home especially to be part of this significant event.
This event is part of the eight-day BAYANiJUAN Festival, which kicked off June 18 until June 24, the feast day of St. John the Baptist, Tiaong's patron saint.
The festival will culminate with a thanksgiving Mass, Foam Party, and, at night, a free concert featuring Andrea Brillantes, Paulo Avelino, Skusta Clee and Bamboo.
