NORTHPORT sealed a two-year extension deal with Filipino American guard Joshua Munzon as the Batang Pier try to keep a solid core heading to the PBA Season 49.
The 2020 top rookie pick signed his deal before leaving for the United States, according to NorthPort coach Bonnie Tan.
The 29-year-old Munzon averaged 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists in the Philippine Cup.
A known scorer since his college days at Cal State and when he played for the Saigon Heat, followed by the Westports Malaysia Dragons in the defunct Asean Basketball League, the 6-foot-3 Munzon added a new dimension to his game after averaging a PBA career-best 2.8 steals in the all-Filipino conference.
The Batang Pier though failed to get past the elimination round after losing to the Terrafirma Dyip in the eighth and last spot for the playoffs during their knockout game.
Munzon joins Johnson Amores, big man JM Calma, Ben Adamos and veterans Paul Zamar as well as Kris Rosales among the NorthPort players who recently signed new deals.
