THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Saturday announced that the number coding scheme for the vehicular volume reduction in Metro Manila will be suspended on Monday in observance of the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice.
In an advisory posted on Facebook, the MMDA said that the enforcement of the coding scheme would be suspended following the declaration of Eid al-Adha as a holiday.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had declared June 17 as a regular holiday, through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Proclamation 579 states that Eid al-Adha, being one of the two greatest feasts of Islam, there is a need for a declaration of work suspension.
The declaration of the regular holiday was made after the recommendation of the National Commission on Filipinos, based on the 1445 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Under the number coding scheme, all vehicles are barred from using major thoroughfares of Metro Manila from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., depending on the last digit of their license plates.
