THE Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has declared readiness for La Niña and the onset of the wet season.

Mayor Maria Josefina Belmonte said the city would stick to its zero casualty target.

"We could say that the city government is fully prepared for the rainy season along with the La Niña phenomenon that was expected to bring more volumes of rainfall," the mayor added, noting that the city's preparedness was put to test during the onslaught of "Aghon," the first storm to hit the country this year.

"This level of preparedness will be maintained throughout the year," Belmonte said.

She added that the city's urban search and rescue team was equipped with rescue boats, protective gear, sonar equipment, rescue cans and other life-saving equipment.

Belmonte said residents needing assistance during emergencies can call the city's 24-hour Helpline 122.

Around 13 to 18 tropical cyclones were expected to enter the Philippines in 2024.
