Cebu Pacific finalizing major aircraft purchase

BUDGET carrier Cebu Pacific on Thursday said it was still to decide on a supplier for a major aircraft deal following a Bloomberg report that it was favoring Airbus for an order of up to 150 A320neos.

"The company confirms that discussions and negotiations are ongoing with regards to a fleet order. This potential transaction is still in the closing stages and no final order has been made," Cebu Pacific said in a statement.

The deal, which would more than double Cebu Pacific's fleet and could include 50 additional options, will likely be announced next month during an international airshow.

The carrier currently has a commercial fleet mix of eight Airbus 330s, 39 Airbus 320s, and 21 Airbus 321s, and a turboprop fleet of 15 aircraft with a recent June 2024 delivery.

Cebu Pacific has said that was in the market for about 100 single-aisle planes and options for a further 50 as part of a major expansion.

The airline said it would name the winner in the first half of 2024 after evaluating which deal would result in the "best economic outcome."

Cebu Air, Inc., which operates Cebu Pacific, saw its share price go up by P0.60 on Thursday to P27.85 amid a 0.30-percent dip for the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index.
