BPC winner Fajardo credits teammates

EVER humble, San Miguel Beer's star center June Mar Fajardo reiterated that any individual accolade takes a backseat as team championship is the one that truly matters to him.

"I was motivated because we were down, 1-2 in the series, but the BPC (Best Player of the Conference), that's just a bonus," Fajardo told media men, shortly after leading the Beermen to a 111-101 triumph over the Meralco Bolts in their big Independence Day win on Wednesday to tie the PBA Philippine Cup Finals series at 2-2.

The 6-foot-10 Fajardo set the tone early for the Beermen, who took an 11-point halftime lead, then overcame the Bolts' repeated rally in the second half to secure the all-important victory in Game 4.

Fajardo finished the game with a season-high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds en route to recording his 13th straight double-double, 19th for the conference, 30th for this season, and the 305th for his entire PBA career, according to the data provided by PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon.

Despite his continuous dominance this season, Fajardo deflected the accolades thrown at him and cited his teammates.

"I'm happy to get the BPC but credit also to all my teammates because I wouldn't have won it without their help," added Fajardo, whose feat of winning 10 Best Player of the Conference awards will be hard to beat.

San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent said the Cebuano big man's latest BPC award is a testament to the seven-time league Most Valuable Player's hard work and dedication to the game.

"June Mar really worked hard for it. It doesn't come easy, and I'm very happy he got it," said Gallent.
