DLSU eyes second preseason title

DE La Salle University (DLSU) seeks its second preseason title in three days as it faces UAAP rival University of the Philippines (UP) in the winner-take-all final rematch of the FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup at the FilOil EcoOil Center on Wednesday.

The battle for gold is set at 6 p.m.

The Green Archers just ruled the Pinoy Liga Cup on Monday at the expense of the NU Bulldogs and they look to make it a double crown against the Fighting Maroons.

La Salle may have defeated UP in the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball Finals last December, but the Topex Robinson-mentored team doesn't lack motivation in turning back the state university.

After all, the Green Archers are seeking revenge against the Fighting Maroons who beat them in FilOil's championship round last year, 87-76.

La Salle likewise bowed to UP in the elimination round of this year's tournament, 77-89.

The Green Archers finished second in the UAAP group eliminations with a 5-2 slate, taking down the San Beda Red Lions in the quarterfinals, 94-80, and the Letran Knights in the semifinals, 91-87, last Sunday.

On the other hand, the Goldwin Monteverde-coached Fighting Maroons swept and topped the UAAP group at 7-0 before stopping the Mapua Cardinals, 94-75, in the quarters and the FEU Tamaraws in the semis, 89-77.

Reigning UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao is out to lead La Salle as Francis Lopez looks to do the same for UP.

Meanwhile, FEU and Letran collide in the battle for bronze game at 4 p.m. as they try to end the tournament on a winning note after their semifinal heartbreaks.
