Eala notches first win in Nottingham qualifiers

(UPDATE) FILIPINA tennis ace Alex Eala tallied her first victory at the Nottingham Open women's singles qualifiers in the United Kingdom on Saturday.

As the second seed of the draw, Eala defeated Sarah Beth Grey of the host country in two sets, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the next round of the qualifiers.

It was a bounce back match for the world number 157, after she lost in three sets to Russia's Maria Timofeeva in three sets at the Makarska Open 125 in Croatia on Wednesday.

Eala will next face Japan's Ena Shibahara, after defeating Australia's Maddison Inglis in her first round qualifier match, 7-6, 6-2.
