Blu Boys off to Mexico to begin Softball World Cup campaign

The Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil), under the helm of Jean Henri Lhuillier, recently organized a get-together as a fitting sendoff for the Blu Boys, the national men's softball team, who will compete in the group phase of the Men's Softball World Cup in Mexico.

The tournament, scheduled from June 12 to 16, is a crucial step for the Blu Boys as they aim to qualify for the 2025 World Cup in Prince Albert, Canada.

The Blu Boys are placed in Group A where they battle against defending champion Australia, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Mexico, and Czechia.

Australia is ranked No.2 in the world and the top contender in the bracket.

The Philippines, however, is ready to rise to the challenge and showcase their skills and determination. The Blu Boys are ranked 15th in the world.

Venezuela is No. 5, Czechia is No. 6, Mexico is No. 9, and Dominican Republic is No. 14.

In this year's tournament, 18 teams are competing, divided into three groups. The top two teams from each group will compete in the World Cup along with two wildcard teams.

This new format promises an exciting and intense competition, with the ultimate goal of securing a spot in the finals to be held in 2025.

The Blu Boys will be playing their group stage matches at the recently renovated Mundialistas Hermosillenses Stadium, starting with a game against the Dominican Republic on June 12 at 4 p.m.

The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed RP Blu Boys are not just looking to advance from their group but are also setting their sights on a strong performance in the World Cup.

ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed his excitement and pride, saying, "We are incredibly proud of the Blu Boys and their journey so far. This team has shown immense dedication and talent, and we are confident they will represent the Philippines with great honor and determination. We look forward to seeing them in action and cheering them on as they aim for the top."

As the team heads to Mexico, the support from Cebuana Lhuillier and the entire nation fuels their mission.
