Miles Ocampo – from child star to leading lady

Miles Ocampo began her career in the entertainment industry at the tender age of six, as one of the original cast members of kiddie comedy show "Goin' Bulilit." She has since shown versatility and skill in taking on a wide range of roles, becoming a prominent supporting actress in various television shows and films.

As such it might come as a surprise that at 27 years old, she is topbilling her very own series with TV5, "Padyak Princess."

In a media conference, Ocampo acknowledged the pressure and excitement of leading her first main show.

"Ever since I started in this industry, I was trained that as long as you haven't aired yet, you can still be replaced. So it hasn't really sunk in for me yet. Maybe it will sink in once it airs, because I've been through that before. So I am grateful to APT and direk Mike [Tuviera], who, when this was presented to me, seemed very sure about me, so I really asked if it was the final answer," recalled Ocampo.

"I know I will do my best, but I am not used to this kind of pressure because since I grew up, I have been lucky to be part of good projects, but this time, it feels like I am the lead and the one handling the show. They are the people who believed I could do this, so who am I to doubt myself? That's why I don't want to disappoint them," she added.

Ocampo's journey has not been without its challenges. She has always hoped for a big break, and even when it doesn't come, she remains grounded by the main reason she does this job.

"Ever since I was young, I wanted to become an actress. I told my parents that I wanted to be inside the box or be seen on TV — that was really my dream. Of course, there are times when it gets tiring, but you always go back to why you are doing this and for whom you are doing it, and it's really for my family," she said.

"In all my years in the industry, it's not always that someone is willing to take a chance on you. It's a huge project for me so, I won't let them down — I will do my best," she continued.

In "Padyak Princess," Ocampo takes on the role of Princess, a charming and determined young woman who dreams of someday reviving her family's reputation and her barangay's golden days. To make ends meet for her family, Princess must step up as the breadwinner. As Princess' story unfolds, she faces life's challenges with courage, determination, and a dash of humor.

The show promises to deliver an entertaining story filled with heartwarming moments, inspiring triumphs, and unforgettable characters that will delight noontime viewers.

Joining her in this exciting new series are his two onscreen partners, Joao Constancia and Jameson Blake.

Asked about the feeling of having two loveteams, Ocampo humorously shared, "Do I have a 24-inch waist because I have two leading men? Well, ever since, whenever I have a partner, I don't make an extra effort to the point of making them look forced. So, I'm grateful because I'm comfortable with Joao and Jameson that no matter what scene is assigned to us, and no matter how close they get to my face, we will do it for the show."

The actors, on the other hand, spoke highly of Ocampo's professionalism and ease to work with.

"She's really professional and so nice. It's my second time working with her. I appreciate her more because we're working on more scenes together, and our scenes have more variety. So far, it's going really well, and the chemistry is also fine. I'm just happy with our scenes because a lot is happening. I'm just excited for everyone to see it," Blake said.

Constancia, meanwhile, added, "She's easy to work with. I've known Miles for a long time, but this is the first time we've had a chance to work together in a show like this. When it comes to chemistry, I think we already know how to work it out. We're really professional in our work here."

Beginning Monday, June 10, Ocampo will be a daily fixture on TV5 as she continues her hosting duties on the popular noontime show "Eat Bulaga," alongside the weekend game show "Emojination."

Expressing gratitude for these significant projects, Ocampo finally said, "I'm relatively new to this network, and I'm grateful because with so many people who could be chosen for these kinds of projects, they chose me so thank you very much. It's exciting because from Monday to Sunday, I can be seen on TV so I'm very grateful because I have hosting and acting as well."

The ensemble cast of "Padyak Princess" also include Ara Mina, Ces Quesada, Christian Vasquez, Cris Villanueva, Yayo Aguila, Gillian Vicencio, Jem Manicad,Karissa Toliongco, Kira Balinger, David Remo, and Miel Espinoza.
