Kiefer Ravena turns free agent as contract with Shiga expires

MANILA, Philippines — Kiefer Ravena joined the growing list of Filipino free agents as his contract with the Shiga Lakes recently expired.

The shifty Filipino playmaker concluded his third season in the Japan B.League that saw him lead the Lakes to the B2 title on the strength of his per-game averages of 12.4 points, 5.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals.

The B2 championship enabled Shiga to move back to the B.League first division in the process.

"To all my teammates, I love you all! We've been to the trenches! In all my basketball, I was blessed to be at war with the most professional people on and how the court," Ravena wrote on his social media account.

The 30-year-old Ravena expressed gratitude to the Shiga ball club that signed him up following a solid season in the PBA with NLEX.

"Took a leap of faith and started a new life with Shiga. I was accepted for who I was as a player and as a person. I'm forever grateful to the organization, front office, staff, teammates, coaches, boosters and fans," he said.

Ravena now joins his younger brother Thirdy, whose contract also expired recently with San-En Phoenix, along with fellow Filipino imports Kai Sotto (Yokohama B-Corsairs), AJ Edu (Toyama Grouses) and Matthew Wright (Kyoto Hannaryz) as free agents.

The former Ateneo standout and many-time Gilas member will be focusing this June with Strong Group Athletics, which tapped him to see action at the Williams Jones Cup slated this July in Taiwan.
