ACAPI awarding ceremony slated Tuesday

Rey Cris Urbiztondo, president of the Association of Chess Amateurs in the Philippines, Incorporated (ACAPI), announced recently that the awarding ceremony for the 1st President's Cup online chess tournament will be held on Tuesday, May 28, via Zoom.

Leading the list of winners is the Panabo Knights Chess Club of National Master Henry Roger Lopez which bagged the championship in the Open and Youth divisions. The Knights also placed second in the Seniors and PWD divisions.

"Due to the excellence shown by the Panabo Knights Chess Club , they will be awarded the overall champion with a corresponding prize in addition to the prize in each division," said Urbiztondo, who also holds the chess title of Arena Grandmaster.

The Davao Durianburg Stallions of National Arbiter Ely Acas, meanwhile, topped the PWD division, placed second in the Open division and third in the Female division.

Imus Cefag PPKGCC of coach Boyet Tardecilla ruled the Female division and placed third in the PWD division.

The Las Pinas TFCC CMC of coach Ferdinand Reyes, on the other hand, placed runner-up in the Female division and third in the Open and Seniors divisions.

Tuguegarao A won the championship in the Under-12 division followed by Laoag Sunshine City and Tuguegarao C.

The four-man Madridejos Knights Chess Club reigned supreme in the Seniors division.

Led by playing team owner Engr. Josito Clamor Dondon, who is based in the United States, Madridejos swept Panabo in their four-round championship match to clinch the crown.

"Our constant practice greatly helped us in getting the championship title," said Dondon, an Arena International Master and US Candidate Master who is a businessman and professional day trader in the US.

The ACAPI games are held using the Chess.com platform.
