Yulo reigns supreme in Asian Championships

Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo reigned supreme against continental counterparts as he claimed four gold medals at the just concluded 11th Senior Men's Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Reminding everyone that Asia is his playground, Yulo conquered the individual all-around and floor exercise events as well as the vault and parallel bars apparatuses in the tournament slated from May 16 to May 19.

Yulo, bound for the Paris Olympics, kicked off his campaign by seizing his first-ever gold in the individual all-around with a total of 84.931 points on May 17.

The 24-year-old finally eclipsed his silver medal finishes in both the 2022 and 2023 editions of the tournament held in Qatar and Singapore, respectively.

Kazakhstan's Milad Karimi finished second to Yulo with 84.632 points while home bet Abdullah Azimov placed third with 82.431.

After that breakthrough individual all-around gold, Yulo then completed a three-peat in floor exercise, vault, and parallel bars.

Yulo scored 14.933 points on May 18 as he once more bested Karimi in the event where he emerged as the 2019 world champion.

Karimi clinched the silver medal with 14.600 points while China's Yang Yanzhi settled for bronze with 14.200.

Yulo continued his sizzling run in the final day of the competition on May 19 as he ruled the vault and parallel bars for the third consecutive year.

Pulling off an exquisite performance, Yulo, the 2021 vault world champion, garnered 14.883 points for the championship of the aforementioned apparatus.

Uzbekistan's Abdulaziz Mirvaliev claimed the silver medal with 14.783 points while Malaysia's Sharul Muhammad Aimy pocketed the bronze with 14.466 points.

Yulo then amassed 15.133 points for his parallel bars golden treble as the pride of Leveriza, Manila bested China's Yin Dehang (15.033 points) and home bet Rasuljon Abdurakhimov (14.866.)

Yulo, meanwhile, missed the podium both in still rings and horizontal bars, where he placed sixth (13.533) and fourth (13.433), respectively.

In the Junior division, Yulo's younger brother Karl Eldrew also showed immense promise as the 17-year-old topped the vault with 14.433 points.
